Walking, such a wonderful exercise, but why should we walk? What benefits does walking provide to help us in our journey to health & wellness?
Walking has positive effects on our nervous system, enhancing the release of hormones and endorphins(those special substances that contribute to well being). And if we do our walking with a friend, or take our walks where we can appreciate nature this may further enhance our sense of connection with the world and our surroundings and make us happier.
Walking can improve our bodies metabolism, thereby helping to burn fat and improving the way our bodies handle the processing of sugars. This can help lower our odds for developing such conditions as diabetes! Preventing muscle loss and strengthening our bones, tendons and ligaments as we age are well known benefits of walking.
Walking, as all exercise, can positively alter the effects of our "sleep" hormone melatonin perhaps increasing the quality and duration of our sleep time.

Research has shown that walking has a positive effect on strengthening our immune system, the system responsible for warding off and fighting illness. People that involve themselves in daily exercise also tend to experience illnesses less often and if illness does occur, it is usually of a shorter duration and and quicker recovery back to health!
