LASER ACUPUNCTURE
At the Florida Institute of Acupuncture & Herbal Medicine, Clermont, Florida we offer laser acupuncture, low level laser therapy, cold laser therapy, as an effective and gentle alternative to traditional acupuncture with needles. The acupuncture points utilized are selected with the same principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine, but instead of needles being used we utilize low level cold laser therapy at acupuncture points. This type of laser is safe and does not cause tissue damage as other laser types that may have a thermal or heat effect.
How Does Laser Acupuncture Work?
Our laser works by "photobiomodulation or biostimulation" using light from the infrared spectrum. Early research with lasers found that light can travel under the skin to other pathways within the body. Light is simply a form of energy and the focus of all acupuncture is simply to move energy or as it is called in Traditional Chinese Medicine, "Qi". So we can move energy by light, massage, needles and pressure. The laser is simply using light energy to generate the desired goal. It can stimulate cell function, enhance the immune response, reduce pain and inflammation and aide in tissue repair and regeneration. It is a needle-free way to stimulate energy flow, promote healing for pain, inflammation and overall balance complementing traditional acupuncture.
The Patient Experience with Laser Acupuncture
Once a patient has been examined and diagnosed and it has been determined which acupuncture points are best for treatment, each acupuncture point may than be stimulated with the laser for 15-60 seconds depending on the location of the points. Points located on the hands, feet and ears require less time and areas such as the legs or torso may require longer time to achieve the best results. Perhaps the greatest advantage of using the laser is that it is completely painless. Most patients feel nothing at all during treatment. Some patients may experience an improved energy sensation along the pathway being treated. Laser acupuncture is a great option for patients that have fear of needles, elderly patients, young patients, and for treatment of acupuncture points on sensitive areas such as the feet, hands, or ears.
